LinkedIn has acquired startup Rapportive that makes browser plugin, collecting data from social-networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn and allowing users to see the data in a sidebar next to the e-mail inbox.
The company which raised $1 million from investors Charles River Ventures, Dave McClure, Paul Buchheit, Jason Calacanis, Gary Vaynerchuk, Shervin Pishevar and Venture Hacks in 2010, was already working with LinkedIn. So, Rapportive’s acquisition by LinkedIn was long expected.
Rapportive CEO Rahul Vohra writes in a company blog post, “During our partnership with LinkedIn, we got to know them very well. We found a great overlap between our visions. We found a high-calibre and extremely driven team. We found, crucially, a “members-first” company: everything that LinkedIn does is about making its members more successful.In business, partnership is dating — and we went on a lot of dates with LinkedIn. Slowly, but surely, we fell in love.”
It’s not clear exactly what Rapportive will be working on with LinkedIn. Vohra points out in the blog post that the plugin will continue doing similar work at LinkedIn.
“We will support Rapportive, and we will continue to build beautiful products that make you brilliant with people,” Vohra writes.
